Meet the Team

OSTI has an experienced management and operational team capable of providing detailed knowledge and bespoke solutions to the Operation, Maintenance and Repair of your thermal asset. 

Our core team consists of more than 50 experienced crafts persons,  refractory specialists, internal design and project management experts capable of undertaking a range of maintenance and repair works.

Details of our key personnel are provided below:

Nick Shaw

Director of Construction, Commissioning, Operation and Maintenance

Nick has over 30 years experience in the Design, Construction, Commissioning and ongoing Operation and Maintenance of Coke Ovens and other Thermal Processes. Prior to Joining Otto Simon Limited as a Director Nick has held positions as an Engineer, Construction Manager and Plant manager.


Nick can bring full asset life cycle experience and ensures all OSTI contracts are executed in line with the high quality and performance expectations.

Hugh Doble

Thermal Industries Division Manager & Project Management


Hugh is an experienced Project Manager and Mechanical Engineer with a particular expertise in construction and safety management. Hugh has worked across a number of Industries including Oil and Gas, Petrochemical, Coke and By-products & Process consultancy.


Hugh can provide full project control capability including planning, estimating and completion of FEED studies.

Dave Willmott

Principal Process Consultant



Dave has over 30 years experience in thermal treatment processes including pyrolysis, incineration and gasification. Extensive experience in water and waste water treatment. 


Dave has experience as both a plant manager and a project manager for newbuilds providing him exceptional insight into supporting all operational issues that may be encountered.

Andy Smith

Health, Safety & Environmental Manager

Andy is an accomplished, influential and strategic Health and Safety Manager with a wealth of experience ensuring full compliance with relevant legislation. With over 30 years experience, Andy has a proven expertise maintaining health and safety throughout the workplace.


Andy can support clients on their safe systems of work and Environmental compliance and is capable to translate new and existing legislation info sound working practices. . A lead auditor of OHS Management Systems, he has successfully managed the introduction and continued certification of OHSAS 18001 and ISO 45001.
