Based in South Manchester, Otto Simon is ideally situated to serve the process industries in the North West. Where required, our personnel provide site-based services to support greenfield new build projects, and brownfield optimisation or replacement projects. We we currently have engineers based on sites up and down the country, and our wide area network lets our engineers tap into the office network to streamline engineering collaboration with site-based and office-based personnel.

  • Project Scoping

    Otto Simon provides pre-concept development services to assist our clients with project scoping and defining the project requirements. Our engineers carry out data gathering exercises and site reviews to discuss the project requirements with the client’s engineering and operating teams. The aim of this phase is to evaluate the client’s requirements and produce a URS / Project Requirement Specification which can then be developed during the next phases of project delivery.

  • Technical Due Diligence

    Otto Simon recognises the importance of undertaking an informed and independent due diligence process against which sound investment and business case decisions can be made with confidence.  Our Technical Due Dilgience services range  from an assessment and application of established and emergent technologies through to the complete technical/commercial review of a project scope of work, capital estimate and business case.


    We adapt our services to provide personnel with in-depth knowledge of the technology involved and experience in successfully delivering similar projects to ensure the credibility of our results. Our experience means we've worked closely with plant operators, project developers, debt/equity providers, insurers, public authorities, and contractors as part of the financial closure process.


  • Concept Design

    Otto Simon works with clients to develop projects from concepts through to commercial scale-plants. We understand the importance of early project definition to delivering successful projects and have significant experience in producing basis of design documentation for our clients; supporting the development of the scope.


    Deliverables from the concept phase can include:

  • Feasibility Study

    Otto Simon provides support to assess the feasibility of project, and undertakes optioneering studies to evaluate the best approach. The aim of the Feasibility phase is to conduct a more detailed examination of the preferred technologies, and to engage with vendors to improve the accuracy of the Total Installed Cost (TIC) estimate.

  • Front End Engineering Design (FEED)

    Otto Simon has significant experience in delivering FEED packages for our clients. We frequently work to stage gate processes delivering Front End Engineering Packages to produce a secure basis of design, sanction grade cost estimates and tender packages for EPC phase project delivery.  We work closely with our clients during the FEED process to ensure that all of their drivers and objectives are captured in the design. Our engineers liaise with vendors and construction contractors, where necessary, to develop an accurate cost estimate and to integrate vendor packaged equipment into the design. 


    Deliverables from the FEED Phase can include:

    • Process Description
    • P&IDs  / PFDs (preliminary)
    • Plant and Equipment Layout
    • Equipment Specifications and Datasheets
    • Scope of work packages for EPC tender
    • Sanction Grade Cost Estimate (±10% accuracy)

    We are proud of our flexible approach to project delivery, and adapt our services to suit each and every project we undertake. Otto Simon discusses and advises our clients on their requirements for Front End Engineering and on the deliverables required to achieve the project goals. This way we ensure that we produce the documentation required for the project without generating unnecessary deliverables which will not benefit the project going forward.


  • Detailed Design

    Otto Simon provides Detailed Design services to complete the engineering necessary for construction and installation. We are fully covnersant with the CDM 2015 Regulations and have delivered projects as Principal Designer and Principal Contractor. 


    Otto Simon's strong process design capability is matched by an experienced group of mechanical, piping, E&I, control system and plant layout engineers and designers.


    Overall coordination of the design process, design reviews and the capture of key design deliverables is achieved through the latest 2D and 3D applications.


    Otto Simon has executed the majority of our Engineering Projects in the role of Principal Designer and is fully conversant with the HAZOP process, SIL, DSEAR, PED, CDM and associated standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Process Safety

    Otto Simon provides process and functional safety services to suit each stage of project development. From providing a single study or suite of studies, to quantitative analysis and asset integrity Otto Simon can adapt our service offering to suit your project needs. Otto Simon employs qualified Process Safety Consultants to ensure that everything we engineer has safety embedded into the design. 


    Our Consultants are familiar with all relevant sector standards and will work to ensure your project meets the highest levels of safety conformance.
