Cougar
Energy are well advanced in their ambitious programme to harness
Australia’s naturally abundant coal reserves and produce energy using
the world’s leading commercial Underground Coal Gasification technology
(UCG). Otto Simon will initially work with Cougar Energy to assist them
in the definition of the Company’s flagship operation, a 400MW power
station in Kingaroy, central Queensland.
Otto
Simon secured the position following Cougar’s worldwide search for an
organisation possessing the specific expertise and synergies needed to
complement their own in-house capability. Otto Simon’s immediate focus
will be on the optioneering and definition of unit operations associated
with the UCG process.
In
addition to the facility at Kingaroy, Cougar Energy is well advanced in
the application of UCG and the potential to generate power on other
sites through-out Australia. The opportunity to unlock the huge natural
potential of underground coal reserves in a more productive and
environmentally conscious way using UCG is also involving Cougar Energy
in a series of international opportunities.
This
appointment in support of Cougar Energy marks Otto Simon’s continued
success in providing value added expertise and acumen to project
developers and investors in the emergent new energy sector.
